Southern Common Market (Mercosul)

Mercosul has been in talks with the United States for quite some time, and recently the Uruguay Vice President, Danilo Astori, addressed a business forum calling on Mercosul to sign a free trade agreement with the United States. According to Astori, Mercosul should have joint international policies, an agreement on moderate protection from thir parties and agreements with other trade blocks.

In August 2013, Brazil and Uruguay declared the intention to speed a trade agreement with the European Union without abandoning Mercosul. With agreements with the U.S. and the European Union, Mercosul will become even more attractive for manufacturers, importers and exporters.
